Tiny Categories

There are a number of subcategories with only one or two articles on the wiki. I feel it clutters up the parent category page, and it leads to articles being removed from other categories where it would be expected to be found. Removing these categories would simplify navigation and hopefully help contributors focus on writing articles. After our content grows these pages could always be added back once they are needed. I think it's proper to solicit some feedback to this idea before executing it, I'd especially like AVoraciousReader to comment. Renncast (talk) 16:57, September 29, 2018 (UTC)

The Five Galaxies

Here is something I've been pondering. As far as I'm aware, we have no canon confirmation of which galaxies are the Five Galaxies of the Uplift saga. Looking into it, I've had trouble trying to reason out what they might be, and was wondering whether others have tried to reason it out, as well.

First and foremost, I think it's reasonable to assume that the Five Galaxies are not merely the Milky Way and four of its satellites. The other four galaxies besides our own are all spoken of in a way which would seem to imply that they were also parent galaxies, and when the emblem which was found on the ships in the Shallow Cluster is mentioned it is said to have additional spiral arms and ellipses included (implying, as I recall, that one spiral ar…

Maybe I'm overthinking this, and we'll remain too small to really seriously explore these concerns. But, for the benefit of everyone else who has edited, or will edit, this Wiki, I wanted to share a little bit of my thought process as I create new articles.

This post, specifically, I wanted to talk about levels of canonicity. Once again, I'll draw examples from the Wikis I know best: Memory Alpha and Wookieepedia.

Any large fictional universe is going to have conflicts between different sources. Mistakes and omissions happen, and sometimes even the intent of the author…

Manual of Style

As the Uplift Wiki grows and hopefully gains new members, it will be important for us to adhere to a set of guidelines regarding how our articles are to be written. While we obviously have plenty of time before we get to the point where these rules need to be set in stone, I thought that it might be beneficial if I put down my thoughts on the matter now.

In general, the style guidelines I follow are similar to those followed on Memory Alpha and Wookieepedia, the Star Trek and Star Wars Wikis with which I have the most experience. The stylistic elements I pulled from those Wikis are as follows:

  • Bolding the subject of the article in the article's first sentence, and any other names by which it may go. (i.e. "Galaxy Two, known to pre-Contact Humans…
